Rouf - Newspaper Corrections!

On 21st March, 2019 I put up a post about Cllr Mohammad Rouf being found to be in breach of standards in respect of three matters ie he made (a) false declarations regarding 88 Shireland Road, (b) false declarations regarding 33 Trafalgar Road and (c) false declarations relating to his employment as a taxi driver (and for some of the material time he was on the Licensing Committee dealing with, er, taxi licensing "lol"!)

Imagine my surprise, therefore, when The Birmingham Post and the Birmingham Mail put up identical stories bearing the headline "Councillor Cleared of Making False Statements in Sandwell"! Now regular readers will be well aware how the craven local media - including the BBC - have been only too willing to promulgate lies and propaganda on behalf of bent Sandwell Labour Council but this was really going too far. I duly made a formal complaint to IPSO, the press standards watchdog, about the grossly untrue headline and a couple of more minor issues.

Yahoo! Following the intervention of IPSO the publishers of the two newspapers in question, Reach plc, have made a couple of minor amendments to the main article and, more importantly, completely changed the headline. I should say that Reach have dealt with the matter very quickly and professionally which is a pleasant change from the usual insulting manner I have been dealt with by the BBC and local papers in the past.

The headlines on both stories have been changed from "Councillor Cleared of Making False Statements in Sandwell" to "Sandwell Councillor breached members' code three times". Now that's more like it! Here are the links to the amended articles for those who can't get to sleep tonight:

PUBLIC NOTICE TO LOCAL MEDIA

A "journalist" has been writing articles which have been published locally stating that at least one Sandwell Councillor has been physically threatened and that the Council has sought an injunction against an individual in respect of this. This statement has been included in published pieces parts of which clearly refer to me and some people have jumped to the wrong conclusion ie that I have been harassing someone and have faced civil legal action. I have contacted the "journalist" but also hereby put local media on formal notice that their careless reporting is potentially libellous of me and that any further publications which lead readers to conclude that I am the person responsible for the threats etc will become actionable.

SAVE GREEN SPACES IN SANDWELL!

Just a quick reminder that I will be at Lion Farm shops at 11.00am this Saturday for half an hour in a protest against Labour's plans to destroy Lion Farm Fields and other vital green spaces in the Borough (corrupt Labour need to raise millions for the Commonwealth Games pool and other crazed projects so that "everything must go"!)

I am pleased to say that some candidates standing for election next Thursday will also be in attendance and this is your chance to have a chat with them. It should all be very civilised and you don't have to superglue your arse to the chip shop window or anything like that.

I would remind local folk that Cllr Yvonne Davies, Labour's candidate standing in Langley Ward, is for the bent deal and the destruction of Lion Farm's green lung. I like Yvonne but she is completely wrong about this!

And our friends battling to save Londonderry Fields are having a picnic on their Field between 1pm and 3pm Saturday afternoon and please support them if you can. Addendum - I have been informed that this event has been postponed......

On the subject of Londonderry Fields a number of local residents are writing to the Government asking that the planning application for the Commonwealth Games pool be "called in" and reviewed. Locals MUST write asap to James Brokenshire, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, 2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF. The Sandwell planning application number is DC/19/62642. You should state, amongst other things, that this proposal is contrary to Sandwell's own local plan.

The CPRE website says that you should copy the letter to:

The Planning Casework Unit
5 St Philips Place
Colmore Row
Birmingham B3 2PW

pcu@communities.gsi.gov.uk

Alternatively you can just contact that unit directly.

AND FINALLY.....

There is widespread outrage locally that the man who really runs the crap Labour Sandwell Council, Tom Watson, is leading the campaign for a second Brexit referendum which ignores the clear vote to leave the EU from Sandwell folk. The two other local Labour MP's have also been working to delay or even prevent a Brexit deal. Don't be fooled folks by local Labour candidates at the forthcoming elections claiming to be pro-Brexit. They all take their orders from Watson, Bailey and Spellar. You can tell them what you think of that next Thursday!
