Jan Britton - Taking The Ric?

Yesterday I mentioned the huge concrete sleeper works proposed by Network Rail and to be built, if approved, at Bescot Sidings. One wing of London-based "MP's" Tom Watson's team are trying to push this through whilst the other wing are objecting to the scheme! Funny that isn't it! And the bent Labour Council are also trying to force it through despite huge numbers of objectors.

As I read into this today one curious thing immediately caught my attention. In October, 2018 Jan Britton, the head of Sandwell's bent paid service, wrote to the absentee MP Watson:

Ok this is supposed to be part of a wider regeneration project but with hundreds of people in the area objecting local folk may be surprised that the Council itself is forking out for mega expensive consultants to mark Network Rail's homework long before a planning application!

Jan Britton has form for dishing out huge contracts without competitive tender eg to Racist Wragges (posts passim) and so I suppose we should be impressed that he is allegedly playing by the rules on this. And Ricardo are a top firm. They even have a special "Rail Division" where a "key client" is, ahem, Network Rail! This from the Ricardo website:

So a public body, Network Rail, is using taxpayers' money to try and shoehorn a huge factory in next to houses and clogged roads. The taxpayer is paying its consultants to force this through a bent Labour Council which is also using taxpayers' money to pay consultants to check that Network Rail's consultants are not telling porkies and those consultants do oodles of work for, er, Network Rail.

I wonder what conversation the disastrous Britton had with Ricardo about their apparently humongous conflict of interest!

Just in case you thought Watson was a regular guy and not a bullying creep (he hounded a man to his death with false allegations of the vilest kind) just take a look at this outrageous tweet:

One of the biggest fans of Interserve, which recently collapsed into administration, was the corrupt Labour Council in his own constituency in whose affairs he, WATSON, interferes constantly. Tommy is really taking the p*ss here

Bent Sandwell Labour under Cooper and Eling were massive cheerleaders for Private Finance (PFI) schemes which are ruinously expensive. This pair and others ditched the first contractor, Vinci, in the first phase of local PFI schools in favour of Interserve. These schemes appealed to brainless people like Cooper since they could boast bright new schools in the Borough but "on tick" as they then had to contract for mega-expensive service contracts for, usually, 30 years. Eling, who thinks he is clever on financial matters, should have known better. Even those Labour Councillors who pose as "hard-left" joined in the Interserve love-fest with gusto voting through deal after deal.

The Tories had invented PFI (Norman Blackwell, the ex-Chair of Interserve, was a policy wonk for Thatcher) but Labour loved the idea of the illusion that this gigantic borrowing was not, in fact, debt even though they were happily shafting future generations for huge, er, debts! (It's called "socialism").

Blair and Gordon "The Moron" Brown turbo-charged these schemes and spent like drunken sailors. And Sandwell Labour were one of the biggest cheerleaders of all - stating for many years in the annual accounts that they actively wanted to do even more PFI deals! But when the Tories came back into power they realised how expensive these schemes had become. Michael Gove stopped the ruinously expensive "Building Schools For the Future" scheme. When he announced this in Parliament Tom Watson shouted at him that he was "a miserable pipsqueak" and the comrades actually took the Government to Court to keep the scheme going!

When Cooper, Eling and others decided (unlawfully) to shaft The Public in West Brom the eventual bent deal involved a £6m (yes, six million pounds) contract to, er, Interserve without ANY competitive tender but with the full approval of Sandwell Labour Councillors. Watson was, of course, deeply involved in the decision to destroy the arts and community facility despite press reports - emanating from him - to the contrary!

Watson's diet may have got rid of his multiple chins but he still has two faces!
