Skidder Shorts #40 - Postal Voting

A short post as a couple of people have contacted me saying that they do not "trust" postal voting in Sandwell - which is not surprising given the fraud, cronyism and incompetence under the Labour dictatorship. Plus there have been numerous complaints specifically about Sandwell Labour allegedly using the postal system to their advantage.

Incidentally, a BBC journalist is interested in any stories where the "head of the household" coerces family members to vote in a certain way. If it is not too dangerous to get in touch then kindly do so.

As I write the elections are still due to run on 6th May. There are lots of seats up for grabs this year and a very real chance to badly damage the Labour dictatorship which has failed the Borough for 46 years (47 years come election day)! There are also elections for the West Midlands Mayor and the Police and Crime Commissioner (and at least Labour's horrendous Jamieson is standing down).

It is to be hoped that there will be no further lockdowns by election day but many of you will still be worried about going out. Many of you will be self-isolating, shielding or perhaps waiting the three weeks for your jab to become fully effective. Some of you, unfortunately, may be unwell. But postal voting is available - do not lose your chance to kick these sleazebags up the arse!

There are two types of postal vote - the "normal" postal votes and proxy votes.

Proxies are where you effectively give someone the right to vote for you - potentially a risky thing to do. Often this has been used in Sandwell where family members are spending periods of time abroad. I know one Labour Councillor who cast his/her own vote and two proxies not so long back. But thy are relatively rare beasts.

A very close personal friend has been an election officer for decades and I would trust him with my life. This is his personally-expressed view:

  • no system is 100% foolproof and, by way of example, election officials could tamper with the votes. This is, of course, a criminal offence and my friend cannot actuallt remember any prosecutions for this;
  • you should ONLY deal direct with the Council and not with political parties acting as intermediaries. He says there is nothing wrong in a party giving you a blank application form but, he says. that's as far as it goes. It is far better to do the whole thing via the Council and the relevant information link for Sandwell is set out below;
  • you should always return your postal vote yourself and not hand it to someone elese for delivery.
My friend's personal view is that if you see people going round collecting postal votes you should report this to both the local council election office and The Electoral Commission. Of course, this raises a problem in Sandwell due to the endemic corruption (and I categorically exclude Election Services in Sandwell here since they have have been exceptionally helpful in all the Skidder's dealing with them.). And David Stevens is a relatively new Returning Officer following the disgrace and downfall of Jan Britton so that I am sure he will want to play things by the book. Postal voting done directly via the Council itself is highly likely to be very safe!

At the last general election my wife and I had postal votes as we were supposed to be away on the big day. As it was we weren't, but we already had the postal vote. It was very easy to set up and do so think about it folks. It will take a lot of pressure off you at an already difficult time and let you have YOUR say about the Labour corruption and failure!

YOU HAVE UNTIL APRIL TO REGISTER BUT LOVELY SANDWELL COUNCIL ELECTION STAFF ARE UNDER PRESSURE DUE TO COVID SO TAKE ACTION NOW TO GIVE THEM PLENTY OF TIME TO PROCESS THE PAPERWORK!
